Most standard HDMI cables are compliant up to lengths of 32 feet without any sort of extender. Not only is the type of cable you use a factor, but the device being connected is a factor as well. The equalizer should be placed at the end of a long HDMI cable, then connected to a shorter HDMI cable that will connect with the TV or Monitor. The equalizer's power is supplied by an external power supply, but can function shorter distances by the 5V signal from the HDMI source.
You could just connect multiple HDMI cables together to achieve your desired length, but without an extender, the signal will not hold and you may experience flickering or other clarity problems associated with a weak signal.
